in his artistic practice, tobias kappel revolves around translation processes between various kinds of images and digital media. he uses the techniques of multimedial photography and painting as tools to examine possibilities of image-making, which can sometimes also lead to a purely visual understanding. different forms of images meet in associative constellations: analog and digital photographs taken by him, found photo material as well as scans, screengrabs and photocopies. through manipulation, enlargement, displacement or reproduction, he creates or reworks images to discuss his practice and the perception of the present.
